Forrest Fenn Box
The main clues for the Forrest Fenn box are thought to be contained in the chapter's poem, below:
I cruise along a road I know
and park my car just off the side,
near where I'd searched for heavy loads.
It was not there, although I'd tried.
Begin it where cool water flows
and follow through the canyon round.
Take in the rolling highs and lows
pass by a place where once was Brown.
From here you are more on your own.
The path is always drawing nigh.
The compass points now towards the home
of point and tree and seeing eye.
Stop just beyond the campers blaze.
A thinker's stone is all you need;
the spot is set with marvel gaze,
a white mark shows upon the seat.
Near here it's nestled all in dream.
I've other treasures left to hide.
I'll miss the golden bending stream,
but I must go back to my ride.
So listen well and here me all,
your efforts will be worth the high.
If you can mark warm water's halt,
you'll bring it back full weight and dry.
Stanza 1, with the corresponding passages from Fenn's original poem:
(Fenn's)
As I have gone alone in there
And with my treasures bold,
I can keep my secret where,
And hint of riches new and old.
(Jon Collins-Black's)I cruise along a road I know
and park my car just off the side,
near where I'd searched for heavy loads.
It was not there, although I'd tried.
Stanza 2:
(Fenn's)
Begin it where warm waters halt
And take it in the canyon down,
Not far, but too far to walk.
Put in below the home of Brown
(Jon Collins-Black's)Begin it where cool water flows
and follow through the canyon round.
Take in the rolling highs and lows
pass by a place where once was Brown.
Stanza 3:
(Fenn's)
From there it’s no place for the meek,
The end is drawing ever nigh;
There’ll be no paddle up your creek,
Just heavy loads and water high.
(Jon Collins-Black's)From here you are more on your own.
The path is always drawing nigh.
The compass points now towards the home
of point and tree and seeing eye.
Stanza 4:
(Fenn's)
If you’ve been wise and found the blaze,
Look quickly down, your quest to cease,
But tarry scant with marvel gaze,
Just take the chest and go in peace.
(Jon Collins-Black's)Stop just beyond the campers blaze.
A thinker's stone is all you need;
the spot is set with marvel gaze,
a white mark shows upon the seat.
Stanza 5:
(Fenn's)
So why is it that I must go
And leave my trove for all to seek?
The answer I already know
I’ve done it tired, and now I’m weak.
(Jon Collins-Black's)Near here it's nestled all in dream.
I've other treasures left to hide.
I'll miss the golden bending stream,
but I must go back to my ride.
Stanza 6:
(Fenn's)
So hear me all and listen good,
Your effort will be worth the cold.
If you are brave and in the wood
I give you title to the gold.
(Jon Collins-Black's)So listen well and here me all,
your efforts will be worth the high.
If you can mark warm water's halt,
you'll bring it back full weight and dry.
